West Beach Cafe

Littlehampton, 2008

Asif's first project was a cafe in the English seaside town of Littlehampton commissioned on his graduation from the AA. His clients Jane Wood and Sophie Murray had previously commissioned Thomas Heatherwick's East Beach Cafe.
The building opens its facade like a dolls house, integrating the use of the beach with its own flexible dining space. It is a building that changes through the seasons. It can offer a sheltered room outside, an auditorium for concerts, or instantly double the visible frontage of the building. During the winter and high wind the facade is closed and full height windows provide views across the english channel.
