West Beach Cafe

Littlehampton, 2008

On graduating from the Architectural Association Asif Khan was commissioned to design a cafe in the English seaside town of Littlehampton by innovative clients Jane Wood and Sophie Murray who had previously commissioned Thomas Heatherwick's award winning East Beach Cafe.
We designed the building around integrating the use of the beach with its own dining spaces whilst equipping the building with enough flexibility to change its scale of operation and degree of open-ness through the seasons.

West Beach Cafe

Littlehampton, 2008

The galvanised steel facade is like a doll's house, complete with sash windows. It opens up to the beach to offer a room outside, an auditorium for concerts, or to instantly double the visible frontage of the building. During the winter and high wind the facade is closed and full height windows provide views across the english channel.

Tetra Light

Collaboration with artist Peter Liversidge, 2008

A modular light fitting designed with Peter Liversidge and is the first product from a series of on-going collaborations between Khan and Liversidge.
The light can be hung as a single pendant, sit on the floor, on a table, lean against a wall, connect to become a chandelier, multiply to fill an atrium. www.liversidgekhan.com
